I had the incredible opportunity to photograph one of the most heartwarming moments in a couple's life—a surprise marriage proposal.

Jace reached out to me because he was planning a romantic proposal to Madelyn and wanted a professional photographer there to secretly capture the moment. His plan was nothing short of magical. He arranged a private boat ride through Adventure Sailing Tours in Pensacola, Florida, and chose sunset as the perfect time to ask Madelyn to marry him.

As a photographer, there are few things more exciting than being trusted to capture a surprise proposal. These moments happen quickly, and there's only one chance to photograph the genuine emotion and excitement when someone realizes exactly what's happening.

As the sun began to set, a warm golden glow stretched across the water. The boat gently swayed while the sound of the water, the Gulf breeze, and the beautiful Florida sky created an incredible backdrop for their sunset proposal photography.

Then came the moment Jace had been planning.

He got down on one knee and held out the engagement ring as he asked Madelyn to marry him. Surrounded by the open water and a beautiful Gulf Coast sunset, the two of them began an entirely new chapter of their story together.

And she said yes!

Madelyn's joyful expression told the story better than words ever could. Photographing her reaction, Jace's excitement, and those first few moments they shared as an engaged couple was incredibly special.

As a photographer, I felt honored to play a small role in preserving such an important memory. Jace had carefully planned everything—from the location and boat ride to the timing of the proposal—and it was wonderful watching his plans come together.

After the surprise, we were able to continue photographing the newly engaged couple and create beautiful engagement pictures on the boat. Their session gave us a combination of candid moments, romantic couples portraits, and gorgeous sunset photographs over the water.

This Pensacola proposal is a wonderful example of why I love surprise proposal and engagement photography. A proposal can happen on the beach, aboard a boat, during a vacation, or somewhere meaningful to your relationship. Having a photographer there allows you to preserve not only the proposal itself but also the genuine reactions and emotions surrounding it.
